One of the five guardian figures , Fudo is the guardian of fire. The Hosho school has a fine example of Fudo by the carver Kobo, with a date of 1594. This mask is known as 'Fudo with flesh' because the resin marks on the back appear as if the actor's flesh was stuck to the mask.
